What is the "Bring Your Own Access" Pricing Plan?

The Bring Your Own Access (BYOA) Plan is a flat $9.95 ($US) per month for unlimited use of America Online. To qualify for this rate, you must connect through an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or through a Local Area Network (LAN). If you select this pricing plan and then connect to America Online using one of our AOLnet or SprintNet access numbers, you will incur an additional surcharge of $2.50 ($US) per hour which will be added to your AOL bill. To switch to this plan, on AOL go to Keyword: Pricing

How does BYOA solve the busy signal problem?

By connecting through an Internet Service Provider, you will be using different access numbers than those used by America Online. Those numbers might be less busy, depending on the ISP you choose. If you connect through your Local Area Network at work or school you won't be using a phone line, and in most cases you will be connecting at a much faster rate than you could via your modem.

What do I need to use the BYOA Plan?

You need access to the Internet through some other source --either an Internet Service Provider (ISP), or a Local Area Network (LAN) at your school or place of business. You need nothing additional for your America Online software.

If I sign up for the BYOA plan, can I still connect using an AOL access number?

Yes, you can, but you'll have to pay a surcharge to do so. If you select the BYOA pricing plan and then connect to America Online using one of our regular AOLnet access numbers, you will incur a surcharge of $2.50 ($US) per hour, which will be added to your AOL bill. If you connect using the surcharged AOLnet 888 or 800 number, the surcharge is $6.00 ($US) per hour. These surcharges are for the entire time you are connected to AOL by an AOLnet or SprintNet access number, rather than via your ISP or LAN. Other communications surcharges may apply. Please Go to AOL and Keyword: BILLING for additional details. In order to avoid surcharges, you must connect to AOL via your ISP or LAN.
