11. Michael MECHLING (2) was born on 14 Nov 1759 in Northampton Co. Pennsylvania. He was christened on 10 Apr 1782 in Northampton Co. Pennsylvania. He died on 22 Feb 1833 in Armstrong Co. Pennsylvania. He was buried on 23 Feb 1833 in Armstrong Co. Pennsylvania. He has Ancestral File number LJ27-DX. Michael Mechling born 14 November 1759 in Northampton County Pennsylvania. Died 22 February 1833 in Armstrong County Pennsylvania. The following is from a hand-written account by one of Michael's descendants. Courtesy of Mr. E. Philip Sanford of Coral Gables Florida. Was a son of Dewalt Mechling and his wife Sabilla hew as born 14th of November 1759 in Northampton County Pennsylvania and was baptized and was instructed in Christianity and admitted to the Lord's Supper A.D. 10th of April 1782. Married to Polly Altman and had 10 children 6 boys and 4 daughters 2 boys and 2 girls died soon and his wife died 10th of March 1811 after having lived together 29 years 1 month and 6 days without children she died 14th December 1829 he had the joy to see 39 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren (of his first wife) and 8 grand-children and 3 great grandchildren died soon. He left Northampton County in the early days and moved this side of the mountains to Westmoreland County where he experienced all the misfortunes the first inhabitants had to suffer during the Indian wars once he was really made prisoner and to be shot but saved himself by flight. He was for a long time a Deacon and pillar in the Church. About fourteen days before his death he complained of illness. He died 22nd of February 1833 at 6 o'clock A.M. and was buried 23rd of February. Michael was a private in the Revolutionary War. In 1792 he was a lieutenant in the 5th Company of Westmoreland County Militia. On 12 December 1795 he was commissioned captain of the 6th Company of Westmoreland County Militia. In 1782 he married Anna Maria (Mary) Altman born 1766 died 10 March 1811 daughter of Peter and Catharina Altman. On 5 July 1810 Michael purchased 125 acres of land in Kittanning Township in Armstrong County Pennsylvania. He married for the second time on 20 February 1812 to Mrs. Margaret (Miller) Turney widow of Daniel Turney and daughter of Peter and Esther Miller. Margaret was born 27 November 1759 and died 14 December 1829 and had 11 children by her first husband Daniel Turney. None by husband Michael.

COMMENT: Dorothy Hallarn Mercy - Although the written account (From which I quoted) indicates that 4 of Michael's children died before he did only three such deaths are indicated in the list of children given two boys and one girl. For some time I believed the second girl was Elizabeth until I heard from one branch which claims her as their Mechling ancestor although they spell the surname McLain. I have seen many variations of the Mechling name - Macklin Mackling Mechlin Mecklin Meckling Meglin Meighly Mekeling and McLin so for this reason I am not ruling out the possibility of the McLain spelling.

He was married to Anna Maria ALTMAN (daughter of Peter ALTMAN and Catharina (ALTMAN)) about 1782 in Pennsylvania. Anna Maria ALTMAN was born about 1766. She died on 10 Mar 1811 in Pennsylvania. Michael MECHLING and Anna Maria ALTMAN had the following children:

He was baptized into the LDS church on 12 Jan 1977 in the St. George Utah LDS temple. He was endowed on 18 Mar 1977 in the St. George Utah LDS temple. He was sealed to parents on 24 Mar 1977 in the St. George Utah LDS temple. He died. NOTE: Died before his father

He was married to Margaret MILLER (daughter of Peter MILLER and Esther (MILLER)) on 20 Feb 1812. Margaret MILLER was born on 27 Nov 1759. She died on 14 Dec 1829. COMMENT: 11 children from her first marriage to Daniel Turney. No children by Michael Mechling.
