Career Development for ROTC and OTS Students

Majors Paul Cotellesso, Jay Glascock, and Wanda Broussard and Captain Beach attended college engineering job fairs, sponsored USAFA and AFROTC cadets, and answered professional development questions from OTS candidates at University of Notre Dame, University of Cincinnatti, and Ohio University. They directly assisted the region's recruiter in his efforts to educate and inform several hundred graduating and continuing engineering students about job opportunities in the United States Air Force. They were able to provide first-hand experience about being an officer and engineer in the military.

Students on Aviation Research (SOAR)

Maj Paul Cotellesso pulled together our Post participation in Students on Aviation Research (SOAR) during the Dayton Air Show on 19 July 2002. Over 400 school-aged children attended the event. Our Post provided two activities: (1) an F-22 engineering presentation by Maj Andrew Caraway (HQ AFMC) and Ms. Becky Wagner (Miami RTA), and (2) a snow and ice control equipment display by Mr. Doyle Jackson, Mr. Woodie Ramsey, Mr. Michael Burden, and Mr. James Tufano from Wright-Patterson Base Civil Engineers.

Wright STEPP

Each year Wright Science, Technology, and Engineering Preparatory Program (Wright STEPP) guides Dayton area middle school and high school students towards math, science, and engineering career fields. This is a joint venture with Wright State University (WSU), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton Public Schools, and local industries. SAME plays a vital role in this program by supplying volunteers who instruct and mentor students during their 3 weeks at WSU. Each year Wright STEPP contributes to the scholastic preparation of 160 selected students.

Wizards of Wright (WoW)

Ms. April Lewis from our Post provides community outreach support through the Wizards of Wright (WoW) program sponsored by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). On a monthly basis, she teaches 30-45 minute lessons on water conservation, general engineering, recycling, and landfill design to elementary students throughout the Miami Valley.

What did it cost me to prepare for the FE exam?

Ten years out of school, I found the FE exam to be among the worst 8 hours of my life. Profit by my example--don't wait so long. Take it while you're in school or just graduated, whether you think you might need it or not. You'll thank me later!

Buy the FE Review Manual! Start studying 6 months in advance of the test to ensure you have enough time to pace yourself. read every chapter, work every problem. Take at least 2 sample exams at least one week before the actual exam.

Here's what it COST me... It may be overboard, but that's what I needed to prepare.

Project Management Workshop

The Project Management Academy of Sinclair Community College is offering our sustaining member firms a training opportunity of a lifetime worth 2.8 CEUs. The course is intended for young members. It'll provide an accelerated overview of project management and its application. It'll excite engineers about the project management process and show benefits of managing successful projects. Instruction is broken into two parts: (1) project management concepts, and (2) applying the concepts to actual projects that each engineer brings to the workshop. If we can gather 11 to 15 engineers for a workshop, it'll only cost $500 per person. What a deal!
